Difference? --> Remote Apps vs. Softgrid

I've been looking around the web, and different place, but I can't really

seem to find out the difference between Remote Apps and Softgrid?

 

Are they basically the same products? (like Cola and Pepsi) just in a

different package?

 

And what would be the strength and weaknesses of the 2 products.

RemoteApps is an extension on TS as we know it these days. You can compare it

with Citrix published application. An application is started on a remote

server in a seamless window. Softgrid is an application virtualization method

in which an application runs in an isolated environment. In this way there

are no conflicts with other applications. This can be compared with Citrix

streaming applications. So the application runs on the local pc, but virtual.

It's also possible to use softgrid on a TS for application installation.

They are not mutually exclusive, depending on your requirements, they both

can work together nicely. For example, if your system needs to support and

hosting office 2003 and office 2007. You can setup both office 2003 and

office 2007 on the same machine with Softgrid, then use RemoteApp to publish

them.
