shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 OK, I'm back and now have all my parts http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm67/D_Hunter315/BILD0079.jpg So about to start putting them together. Obviously I've been inside a PC before and have an idea how it all fits together, and will read through all the manuals as I go along and look at the topic pinned in this section. But any advice particularly on the order to do things and anything I should watch out for would be great. Will keep you updated. Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Hey Shrimply. Yeay. Ok lets get you started. The first job is to fit your processor. First go wash your hands so you dont transfer any dirt. Do not build on the carpet. Use a table. Open CPU and lay out on the table and then open mainboard and lay on the table. Fit the processor and cooler to mainboard.Do not forget to check there is thermal paste already applied to cooler/CPU. Fit mainboard to removable back plate, remove back plate from computer first. Make sure you use the little stand offs, usaly a brassy colour. Fit the stand offs to the back plate so they coinside with your mainboard holes. Fit mainboard using the rubber washers on both sides of the mainboard before screwing mainboard to stand offs. Do not over tighten the screws. Then open your power supply and fit inside the computer case. Make sure it is firmly screwed into place. Then carefully slot mainboard,CPU and back plate into the tower. I hope these instructions make sence, just ask me if you need more clearer ones. Make sure you remove any outter packaging from the hardware. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 Thanks, I'll get started once I clear some space. Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
Tootech Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I'd also fit the memory to the board prior to assembly into the case. If you are struggling to get the mainboard backplate to stay in place whilst you assemble it, press the backplate into the case - it will clip in and stay in position. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Shrimply please feel to ask further questions if you need to. I would rather you ask for extra help were needed. Start the first post then we can move onto the next set of instructions. Post pictures if you need to. JB. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 OK first question, my back plate doesn't seem to be removable, is this likely to be the case or I just being daft. It seems to be kind of riveted on. Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Ok maybe it doesnt remove and is permanent. Some cases are like this. Do both sides of the case come off? If yes remove both sides. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 yeah both sides of the case are off but the back panel seems to permanent. Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Ok thats ok. Fit CPU etc before fitting the mainboard in the case. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 Thanks. that brings us nicely on to problem number 2, I have both stand offs ands screws which were supplied with the case but there aren't any rubber washers, which I'm guessing is a problem. Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Not nessaserlily. I know many do not use the washers,it is my personal choice to use them even if they are not supplied with your purchase. The mainboard is plastic and the standoffs and screws are not touching nay major components. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 OK, I don't have any so it can go together without. Next time I might manage to order everything I missed this time round Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
maynardvdm Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Thats not a problem, as JB said its better but not necessary. Quote We are all members helping other members. Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 You only need to fit one stick of RAM in the slot nearest your processor for now. Shrimply they aint a must have it is just I like to use them. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 cool, I think I'm ready for the next steps, the power supply was already fitted. Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Ok now what I usaly do is fit the CD/DVD rom drive and hard drive but I do not at this time connect any power supply connections. If you have a card reader you can also fit that. If your graphics cards cooler is already fitted you can fit the card in the top PCI slot. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Tootech Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 (edited) but the back panel seems to permanent. To clarify, the backplate is this beast. There is one fitted to the rear panel of the computer case. Sometimes the cut outs are correct for your board, often they are not. If not, remove the plate already fitted, and replace it with the one that came with your board. Edited September 27, 2009 by Tootech Quote
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 Thanks, I don't have a graphics card cooler, that's something I might add as time goes on, but pretty sure it isn't vital. The graphics card does have its own fan though. Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Shrimply the fan I was refering to some call it a cooler. TooTech I should of said case back plate or case motherboard plate. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 OK, I think that's everything that's supposed to be fitted, fitted. Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Ok next step. Unravel the cables from the power supply if they all bunched up. Lay them out side the case the best you can and so they aint wrapped around eachother. Now do the cables have voltage written on them? See your processor you should have a cable coming from it.That fits into the CPU header near the processor.,Can you see a connection on the mainboard for it? Do not connect any power supply to the hard drive. Connect power supply and IDE,SATA cables from hard drives and CD/DVD rom drives to the mainboard. Your mainboard has a 20 or 24 pin power supply port. If it is 24 pin then use the 20+4 pin power connection from PSU and connect to the mainboards main power supply port.Or if 20 use the 20 pin. Does your mainboard also have a small 4 pin port or 2x4 pin? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 There's no voltages on them but they are all labelled with letters and numbers. I've connected the rest as you said. l Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 The main board has 24 pins and I'm not sure about the other question sorry. Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Lets see if TooTech sees anything we may of missed. I never connect the hard drive untill I tested the system,I fear the hard drive is usaly the first to go if there is any problems. Yeah I seen the board has a 24 pin. Which question? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 This one :D Does your mainboard also have a small 4 pin port or 2x4 pin? Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
