Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I tried to get a decent sized picture of your mainboard but they all to small for me to see. The four pin port/socket would be located possibly near your sound card at the back end of the PCs mainboard. Is there any? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 I don't think there is, but took this picture. Maybe it will help http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm67/D_Hunter315/BILD0081.jpg Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
Tootech Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 (edited) This is the 4 pin socket we refer to - there will be a cable on your power supply for it, normally 2 black wires, 2 yellow wires. Ringed faintly in red. Next, there is a front panel audio cable you may want to connect to let you use headphones from the front of your case - its optional, and not critical at the moment. Have you connected the CPU fan connector? Refer to page 22 of the manual, look at the system panel connector. PLED +/- Power> LED wires PWRBTM & GND> Power button HDLED +/- >Hard drive LED/activity GND/RESET >Reset Button Connect them all up as they should be. Sometimes the cables in the case are marked differently - if you need help, let us know what is printed on the wires. When you do finally get around to firing it up, as soon as it starts, check the CPU fan is spinning (leave side cover off for now), and press F2 to get into the BIOS. Go over to HW Monitor to check your CPU temp. Leave it for 5 mins and watch the temp. Thats all I can think of initially. There are no doubt some BIOS tweaks for boot order and maybe CPU settings but that should get you going. Edited September 27, 2009 by Tootech Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Tootech put a ring round the 4 pin socket I was refering to. You can connect the HD Audio to bottom far left port. Case fans either need connecting to the mainboard or do they have a four pin power supply connection that looks like it would connect to the power supply? Thankyou both for pictures. Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Front USB and card reader connect to the lower edge ports see the blue one and the yellow one? Your mainboard speaker needs connection also, see the white socket near SATA cables? Have you connected the power cables from the front of the case as in on off? You know what a good idea would be now? Take five mins, make your self a cupper and relax for a few then we can get back to it.A break is always good. shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 Thanks, I think everything is connected as it should be so a few hopefully intelligent questions. The fitted case fan has a connector so it runs directly from the PSU, I presume this means it will run the whole time, should I plug it into the mainboard instead which from my understanding means it will only come on when needed? Or does it matter. For intial testing would it be better to fit the monitor to the onboard graphics rather than through the graphics card? Or again does it not matter. And finally my audio cable runnig from the front of the machine has two connectors on the end, the first has "HD audio" on it and the cables then run to one with "AC'97" at present I have done the obvious thing and connected the one marked "HD audio" to the board but wanted to confirm this was correct. And thank you so much for all the help you've given so far. Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 If the fan has a 4 pin connection that looks like it goes to a 4 pin power supply connection that is were it should go. If it has a tiny mainboard connection it goes to mainboard. Either connection means the fan would run while PC is on. I would test using your new PCI graphics card,so yes connect your monitor. Do you have a normal cable connect keyboard and mouse to use? Connect mouse and keyboard. I think we are good to go for now. Lets power her on now if you feel comfortable to do so. ALWAYS ask questions if your not sure. And you are very welcome. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 Thank you, I can look out an old fashioned mouse and keyboard, lol. The fan has an adapter, so it has the fitting to be plugged into the motherboard but an adapter so it plugs into the 4 pin connection in the PSU, I'm guessing either is fine. Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I would plug it to the mainboard to be honest if it has the adaptor. This way the mainboard sensores will reconise the fan. You can try your wireless keyboard and mouse and see if it works to get into BIOS. When your ready turn her on and enter BIOS and check the temp of the CPU fan. If it all appears to be running fine then power her off and connect the hard drive. Restart the computer again, enter BIOS set first boot to CD/DVD rom hard drive to second boot and popin your install disk.Save and exit. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 OK its on, what should I be looking for with the CPU temperature? Its been on for about 5 minutes and seems to be rising ( not good?), currently at 36C. Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Yeay she powered on. Excellent job shrimply just excellent. 36 appears fine to me. We can monitor temps from within windows once you install the operating system. I would power her off, remove from power outlet.Wait till power supply cools then touch the power supply for a few seconds. Connect the hard drive. Restart, enter BIOS set first boot to CD/DVD rom popin install disk save and exit and go ahead and install windows. Oh and if you have another RAM stick please insert that while powered off. Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 36 is fine myne runs around that. Room temp is possibly the whole internal temp which often looks high. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 Cool well windows is installing so I'll get back to you if it goes successfully and find out anything I should look out for or check. Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 That is excellent shrimply. I hope it goes well. Once installed use the driver disk supplied with your new mainboard to installl hardware drivers, same goes for your graphics card. Or download updated ones from the manufacturers website. Download speedfan: SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer Anything else we can think of we will post for you. If you have further questions please ask away. I think you did an excellent job and now we wish to see pictures cause we like to see how a build goes but plenty time for them. Congradulations on your new build. JB. maynardvdm Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I normally install drivers in this order: 1. Motherboard Chipset drivers 2. Graphics drivers 3. Sound drivers 4. Network drivers That is the important ones ;) Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 Thanks, busy installing driver right now, everything seems fine, only issue I've got is that one of the fans seems to be pretty noisy, possibly the case fan. But its probably because I've been used to a near silent laptop Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
Jelly Bean Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Is your side still off your case? If yes see if you can listen to which one it is. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Tootech Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 one of the fans seems to be pretty noisy, possibly the case fan. I wondered about that - disconnect the case fan. The video card fan may make some noise. Also, go back in to the BIOS and switch on the CPU fan speed control (if it is disabled)- basically it will wind down the CPU fan speed when everything is nice and cool - which it will be most of the time with your CPU. If you need more guidance with that just say and I'll take exact instructions from the manual. Quote
shrimply Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 Hi, you were right it is the cpu fan, if you could five more exact instructions that would be great, I enabled "CPU quiet fan" but not sure if that's what you meant. Its seems to have made a slight difference Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
Tootech Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Go to page 41 of the manual - the settings are explained there. Enable CPU Quiet Fan, Target temp 50, Target Speed Slow. That should do it. Quote
shrimply Posted August 28, 2009 Author Posted August 28, 2009 Thank you. Well a quick update, there are two main reasons that i haven't been back with an update quiker. The first is the cheap wireless card that I ken wouldn't work but prayed would, won't. No matter what drivers I throw at it. SO I will need to buy another adapter. At the minute its borrowing an internet connection off my netbook. Secondly our internet is ridiculously slow. Last night before I reset the router the download speed coming into the router was 224kps. SO everything is taking an age to download. The readings from Speed Fan are as follows System: 32C CPU: 31C AUX : 46C (umm don't know what this is) Core 0: 33C Core 1: 34C Maybe someone could let me know if this is OK. I haven't managed to get the other suggested software installed yet as I want to get the anti virus downloaded first. On the bright side I did post this message from the new computer, with the new monitor which is brilliant. Jelly Bean Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Hello shrimply, how is your day so far? The temps are fine. AUX 46C is either your mainboard temp which is completly fine. Or it is a sensor reading which is possibly inaccurate due to that sensore seeking a fan that is not installed. It could just be a false reading. Try this: Everest Ultimate Edition - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com We can look into that AUX temp more closer for you.
