Jelly Bean Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 The AUX could be your case fan however I want a second opinion of this when TooTech comes back online. But your temps are all fine. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Tootech Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Yep, I agree all the important temps are just fine. I havn't a clue about the AUX - JB may be right, and I'd say that as long as the CPU, GPU and mainboard are ok its fine, don't worry about it. The wireless card I've had for a while it works with XP, windows 7 and Ubuntu but apparently not vista. What sort of weird and wonderful card is this that rejects Vista lol? Quote
shrimply Posted August 29, 2009 Author Posted August 29, 2009 Cool, so no problems that's good. The wirless card is a cheap (£10) of ebuyer, they still sell it I think. It's a rebranded Marvell liberatas card. And I constantly get Error code 10. I'm not sure if its vista or the fact its 64 bit but I've scoured the internet and tried many suggested drivers and solutions and nothing works so it will need to be replaced. shrimply Posted August 29, 2009 Author Posted August 29, 2009 Thank you. I'm hoping to get my windows 7 upgrade as I paid extra for an OEM that included it but it seems to suggest that I need a receipt for a purchased computer before I can get it which obviously I don't have. haven't looked into it yet but don't know how successful that will be. shrimply Posted August 29, 2009 Author Posted August 29, 2009 Jelly Bean, I finally got the Sisoftware Sandra software installed. I was wondering if you could let me know what I should do with it, it all seems very complicated. I ran the analysis and advice tool and it generated a number of errors and warnings, and tips. Most of which I don't think are important but if you'd mind looking over the log and seeing if there's anything I should act upon that would be great. The driver disk you used basicaly has outdated drivers and software but it was good enough to get you up and running. Let me copy and paste these items in and tou can see the issues pritty plain babe. Update driver and software to latest version: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx You also need to go to your mainboard makers site for downloads for your system. shrimply Posted August 29, 2009 Author Posted August 29, 2009 Thank you, I'll try and get all the latest drivers, its a slow process with the current internet issues. Only thing I'm slightly worried about is the bios update. Windows has been activated so some confusion there, and I was just waiting for windows to install the latest service pack through automatic updates, is this not the right thing to do? Anyway, I'll get the drivers I can and rescan and then see where i am. Thank you. Jelly Bean Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Sorry shrimply I am tired a little now. I miss wrote the BIOS update it should say GPU BIOS update/driver update, sorry ignore that bit. Sorry for the double post to I removed the copy. It is not actualy saying you have not activated its warning it requires activation,I just wanted to know you had activated. Before installing a service pack I recomend the first things to do is update all drivers were possible and trawl for as many updates you can from Microsoft. Install Net framework as you will need it. The serviice pack will not install unitll you have installed a number of updates from Microsoft and I have seen the amount sometimes required being in the 90s.Do not try to download an SP untill you have updated fully first or it could cause issues. A SP needs a certain grade of NET Framework installed before it will install. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 hi, trying to do this a bit at a time, still concentrating on the graphics card right now. I've downloaded the latest drivers from ATI but I'm unsure about the GPU bios update and how to go about it. I did a bit of searching and it seems to suggest I need a floppy disk drive, I don't think I even own a floppy disk. Also, I am betting this is a stupid question but when you say trawl for drivers what do you mean. Is there specific places I should look for all the ones I need etc. And don't apologise, I appreciate all the help I get and never expect an answer as quickly as you provide one. Jelly Bean Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Just update the ATI card driver and download ATI Catalyst. All the rest is just update such things like chipset. Network. Sound. And so on. If you dont ask you dont get an answer. Ignore GPU BIOS. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted September 1, 2009 Author Posted September 1, 2009 (edited) Hi again, I'm still having a few difficulties. Despite having installed all the drivers I can find, motherboard and graphics card I'm still getting all the warnings I was on the previous post, its even telling me I need to install java and net framework, which I already have. Video Adapter : ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series (120 SM4.1 725MHz, 512MB DDR2 2x405MHz, PCIe 2.00 x16) : Video BIOS is too old. Check for an update. Not sure what to do about these, the driver is the latest one offered and I presume it is certified. I can't get a refresh rate of 75Hz ( Samsung seem to suggest it should be 70Hz which I can't get either) SMBIOS/DMI information may be inaccurate. This one concerns me as I have no idea what it means and there seem to be many warnings throughout the report. PCIe : PC Partner RADEON HD 3600 SERIES : Video card does not have an interrupt assigned. This one I can't find out how to assign an interrupt, system informtaion says it has "IRQ 4294967294" but this seems a bit strange and I'm not even sure its the right thing. ST3500418AS (500.1GB, SATA300, 3.5", 7200rpm, NCQ, 16MB Cache) (C:) : Acoustic Management enabled. Peformance may be impaired.I can't find out how to sort this, the help files say I need a driver from the hard drive manufacturer but Seagate don't offer one. MIDI Output Devices (Playback) : Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth : Driver may be obsolete. Check that it is the latest version. I don't know what I need to do here, I can't find the device in the device manager and don't really understand what the device is. Hardware DEP is not supported by your CPU.This concerns me, but I don't think there is anything I can do about it. Warning 1329: Local Users : ASPNET : Account is not secured (no password). Also this may be a daft question, but how in earth is 90GBs of my hard drive full. Ive only had an 80GB drive up till now and I've put hardly anything on the computer so I can't fathom out why there is only 370GB left of 465GB Thanks and sorry for the long post. Tootech Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Hi Shrimply, Forget all the Sandra analysis - some of it is total rubbish Example Video Adapter : ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series (120 SM4.1 725MHz, 512MB DDR2 2x405MHz, PCIe 2.00 x16) : A refresh rate of at least 75Hz is recommended. Increase it if possible. Most LCD monitors run at 60Hz - 75Hz is NOT recommended. What resolution are you running at? Don't understand, there isn't a guest account and my account is password protected. Guest account is disabled - have a look in User Accounts (leave it that way). but how in earth is 90GBs of my hard drive full. Umm, don't know - have you copied any data over to your new drive? It looks like everything that needs doing is actually done. Your PC runs well and you have updated all the drivers. My advice is to not go chasing your tail trying to follow the advice of Sandra - its mostly generic stuff and doesn't help you. By the way - have the cooling fans settled down to a quiet speed? Quote
snow Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 The disappearing hard drive space might be due to volume shadow copy (System Restore) making complete backups of the drive. In windows vista VSC backs up the data on the drive as well as the settings, and I've seen it take allot of space up. As you know, disabling system restore can limit your options in the event something goes wrong. If in doubt I'd leave it on. Once it's taken up the extra space it needs to store snapshots of your files the disk space it uses should level out. Edit: Just like to say I agree with everything Tootech said above; none of those warnings are anything to be concerned about. Quote Need help with your computer problems? shrimply Posted September 1, 2009 Author Posted September 1, 2009 (edited) Thanks, I'll stop try to solve problems that don't exist. I'm running the native resolution which is 1680 x1050 I believe. Fans, umm I can still hear them, its not as quite as I'd like but after sorting the CPU fan in the bios its not as bad and I've come to the conclusion that its all three fans together that are the culprits and there's pretty much nothing I can do about it. When I mentioned I was unhappy with the noise to my dad he said that at least it was a constant noise and he's right, after I become used to it it will become habitual. OK, so I shouldn't worry about the excessive amount of drive space. I haven't transferred any files over, excluding my emails, but if its just backups then that's cool I''ll leave it as it is. Thanks again for all the help. Edit- one more question, my system seems to constantly use around 2GBs of ram, is 64-bit more resource hungry than 32-bit? As the average ram usage was always about 1GB of my 2GB on my old system. snow Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 My own machine (Vista 64bit) is using 1.88GB of RAM right now, and I've turned off a good ammount of services, so yes this is perfectly normal. If you have 4GB or more Vista will pretty much take all it wants, but this is good, as it caches frequently used items and parts of the OS. You wouldn't want to spend good money on RAM and never have it used for anything :) As for fan noise, the fans included with cases and especially the Intel stock CPU cooler fan will be loud. Xilence redwing fans are much quieter, but kitting your whole PC out with them can be expensive, and they can't replace the stock cooler fan anyway, so if it's not bothering you too much I'd try living with it. Tootech Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Interesting comparison to Windows 7. Just checked my own 64 bit machine - used 1.31 GB, thats with Outlook, Word and IE8 open - what a difference! I'm thinking about your fans again - the PSU in that case is whisper quiet, I did one recently with an Intel E2220 and that case - can hardly hear it and I wonder what is making the noise. Maybe the case fan as I don't tend to fit them - also you have a video card fan, they sometimes whir away happily. Could be a bit of a project for the future?? :) Quote
shrimply Posted September 1, 2009 Author Posted September 1, 2009 I'd agree, the PSU is practically silent. The only case fan is the one provided and I'd say it was making very little noise either. Been doing some more investigating and I think the main problem is the Graphics Card followed by the CPU fan, the two I can't easily do anything about. Never mind I'll live with it.
