Hello,

I'm having a crazy issue where I set a laptop users profile to roaming so

could than pull her profile to a new laptop I'm building for her however, now

that I have her profile on the new machine, I removed the line in her profile

so it will stop roaming. Now, for some reason I can't get the system/server

to stop redirecting her desktop. That is the only folder being redirected and

when I change the path in the registry it reverts back. This happens on any

machine I log in to with her credentials.

Help please! :)

Do you have a folder redirection policy in place?

Anthony,

No we are not using any type of policies for redirection.

Re: Redirect/Profile Issue

OK, I have not tried redirecting except with policy. How did you redirect it

in the first place?

Re: Redirect/Profile Issue

All I did was go into AD users and computers and added

\\servername\profile$\user under the profile tab>>profile path.

I have tried everything from changing ALL of the registry entries back to

the defaults that had the \\servername\.... entry and it just reverts back

when I log in as her and on ANY system on the domain. That's why something is

holding that info and not letting go of it.

Re: Redirect/Profile Issue

We need to clarify exactly what the problem is. So far I understand:

- you changed the user account so that the profile path was on the network

- you logged onto another machine so the profile was obtained from the

network path

(You are really better off using something like the Files and Settings

Transfer Wizard or the User State Migration Tool if you want to keep all the

user's customisations.)

- you removed the profile path from the user account

Now I don't follow what you mean by the redirected desktop. Do you mean that

the profile is still roaming? If you go into the My Computer, right-click,

Properties, Advanced, User Profiles, what does it say there? Can you change

it there to Local?

Re: Redirect/Profile Issue

Yes I know I should have used the transfer wizard but at the time I was

planning on leaving her on a roaming profile but obviously couldn't do that

with her going to a laptop. This issue right here is why I don't even like

using roaming profiles unless GPO's are involved.

I did check the profile settings as you asked and it shows local but the

desktop folder still wants to point to our server. I have tried everything I

know and even asked some of my colleagues who pretty much know everything

just not all at once. :)

Any other ideas?

Re: Redirect/Profile Issue

On the laptop, with the local profile, what happens if you reset the folders

as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/242557?

If they revert after logging off and logging on again on the laptop, there

must be a policy in place. Run RSoP to find what it is:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323276

Delete all the local copies of her profile on other computers she may have

used.

Giving a user a roaming profile does not cause folders to be redirected, so

if it really is redirected something must have done it,

Hope that helps,

Anthony, http://www.airdesk.com

Re: Redirect/Profile Issue

Well.. I did a search on the GPO that was created before I started working

here and there was a folder redirect policy in place that my boss nor I was

even aware of. Apparently not everyone under the GPO is affected by it

because there are only a couple of desktop folders out on the server.

I was getting kinda pissed because even though I removed that policy and set

it up to have the users files relocated back to their local machine, it still

wouldn't take. I had to rename her profile and once I logged in clean it was

good. I just copied her documents etc to the new profile and deleted the old

one.

Thanks for all your help Anthony!
