Best Backup Software?

Hi All,

I was just wondering what were some of the better backup software programs

out there to backup servers. I have an Exchange server that I am having

trouble backing up and I'm pretty sure it is because the software I'm using

(Yosemite) is no good. What are the best ones? I head Backup Exec is good,

but I believe Veritas is about to get sold to someone else again. Let me

know, thanks.

Hmmm. Veritas was bought by Symantec several years ago and I haven't heard

anything about them selling it again.....

BackupExec works fine. You will need to buy / install the Exchange

agent....but do not use brick/mailbox level backups, though. Just proper

online backups of the information store(s) that will purge the committed

transaction logs.

However, if you've got Windows you've got NTBackup, which can very easily do

online Exchange backups. NTBackup was actually written by Veritas, way back

in the day, and for a single server, it's fine.

You haven't mentioned your versions of anything (this is important when you

post in server groups!) but you might check out

http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange-2003-Backup-Restore-NTBACKUP.html

You can also look into BackupAssist - an inexpensive little "wrapper" for

NTBackup that makes it much easier to manage.

I suggest you post future Exchange-related questions in

microsoft.public.exchange.admin. You may find these newsgroups easier to

navigate & use (not to mention better) if you stop using the web interface &

try a newsreader instead.
