shrimply Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Hi, again - sorry another question. My new computer is pretty much set-up, all that I need to do is transfer across my email accounts and messages. Now I know how to transfer my messages and accounts. My problem is that in the past after I've transferred my emails and accounts the client then downloads thousands of messages saved on the mail servers. So I end up with tons of duplicate mail. I'd rather not clear the mail servers but is there another way around this? Ideally I'd just like to transfer the entire set-up as it is from the old PC to the new one but I don't believe that's possible. Follow the instructions. EDIT: Found what I was looking for: How to use Windows Easy Transfer to migrate files and settings from one Windows-based computer to another Windows Vista-based computer Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shrimply Posted August 29, 2009 Author Posted August 29, 2009 Thanks, I have to say I hadn't even considered that. I want to transfer very little ( only my mail and firefox profile so far) and didn't realise that it was so customisable. However, there didn't seem to be an option for transferring "windows live mail" but it got me thinking that all I needed to do was find the right folder and copy it from computer A to the correct location on computer B. And amazingly it worked so I know have everything i need on the new computer with no hassle.:D Quote Keeping Snakes Tips, Advice and info on keeping SnakesClick Here"If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room"
Jelly Bean Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Have you installed windows live mail then added your accounts to it? Once you add your accounts you can download mail automaticaly by opening windows live mail. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
RandyL Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I think you have it sorted if I'm not mistaken. If you have then it seems to be a lot easier than Outlook Express was. OE was ok for for the address book but the mail store was problematic at times. Buggy. Thanks for the feedback shrimply. You are always the good man. Quote We are all members helping other members. shrimply Posted August 29, 2009 Author Posted August 29, 2009 Yeah its sorted, having found the correct folder with all the personal account settings and saved mail and placing it in the right place on the new computer when I opened Windows live mail for the first time all my accounts were set up and all my messages were in place. All I had to do was fill in the passwords for each account again before it downloaded new messages. Truth be told I actually I had to copy the folder to the new location twice as the first time I opened WLM I had all the accounts and some of the folders but no messages, which is a bit bizarre but it worked as hoped the second time around. barslo Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Microsoft outlook Hello I am a new member, living near Reading. I have recently bought a netbook, and installed Microsoft Outlook 2003. I was hoping to be able to share files with my desk top, and this has worked Ok for everything else. However I am unable to get at my desktop files for outlook fom my netbook. I have activated file sharing in both, and on the individual files, but outlook in my netbook will not see them. Any thoughts? Quote
