geordie_guy Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Hi everyone, I have just noticed that I am not getting any sound on the internet, youtube and yahoo messenger etc , but when I play any video in media/real player it works fine. Also there are no system sounds, I don't know anything in particular that I have done to my computer. I have googled this problem and have tried several fixes like registery fix, sound settings, internet explorer settings etc but no luck. Does anyone know what could be the problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Quote
Plastic Nev Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 The obvious one I know, but have you checked in the full sound system controls that all sliders are at or near the top and no ticks in any mute boxes? A double click on the speaker icon on the bottom task bar should open the control panel. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. I have looked in device manager but there isn't any problem with the sound driver because sound works fine in media/real player. Another strange thing I have noticed is that there is no sound on youtube and bbc iplayer but works ok on itv player. Thanks for you replies. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 OK, Thanks, at least now I think your sound system itself is OK, so perhaps there may be a problem with Adobe Flash player, (youtube uses that) Have a look here and see if your player is up to date.- Adobe - Flash Player If not, update it, if it is up to date, it may be corrupted so go into control panel, add and remove programs, and uninstall it, then go to the above site and re-install, see if that helps. Jelly Bean Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Can I just sugest that this maybe a malware issue? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Plastic Nev Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Jelly Bean may just be right as it is obvious now that Adobe Flash hasn't loaded or installed correctly, Malware could be blocking it. Please follow our procedure below and let us know how you get on with that before we go any further with your sound issue. Your computer appears to be infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. It is in your best interest to note the following: Please disable your resident security applications (such as AVG, Spybot, WinPatrol, etc.) before performing the below procedure so that they do not interfere with the process. Perform all the steps in the order listed to avoid any conflicts. If unsure, please stop and voice your doubts. You might be required to go offline during the disinfection process. Therefore, it is recommended to print off the instructions below for ease of reference. If you stick to the above guidelines, all should go smoothly. ================================================ STEP 1 Download ATF-Cleaner by Atribune. Save the file to your Desktop. Double-click on the file to run the program. On the Main tab, check the Select All button. Next, click on the Firefox tab (if applicable) and check the Select All button. Note: If you would like to preserve your saved passwords in Firefox, then click No at the corresponding prompt. Now, click on the Opera tab (if applicable) and check the Select All button. Note: If you would like to preserve your saved passwords in Opera, then click No at the corresponding prompt. Press the Empty Selected button and click OK to acknowledge the corresponding prompt. Click on the Exit button to quit the program. ================================================ STEP 2 Please click here to download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Save the file to your Desktop. Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. At the end, make sure a check mark is placed next to: Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware [*]Click Finish. [*]The program will download and update itself if it finds the necessity to do so. Please allow this. [*]Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. Note: Depending on your computer specifications, the scan may take some time to complete. Please wait patiently and do not interrupt the process. [*]When the scan is complete, click OK, and then Show Results to view the results. [*]Make sure that every entry is selected, and click Remove Selected. [*]Restart your computer. ================================================ STEP 3 Please click here to download SUPERAntiSpyware (Free Version). Save the file to your Desktop. Jelly Bean Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Which version of IE are you using? Have you tried uninstalling the sound card driver from device manager and download a updated driver for it? What is your make and model of sound card? Uninstal IE and reinstall. Here are my list of fixes you can attempt doing: 1. There is something wrong with Internet Explorer and/or IE is missing a neccessary component/plugin/addon. 2. There is something wrong with your audio driver or with Windows. 3. There is something wrong with either your sound card, your speakers, or some other item of hardware in your computer. First, lets explore option 1: something wrong with Internet Explorer. Perhaps one of the addons you usually use in IE is interfering with the ability to play sound: To check this, try running IE without addons: 1. Open the Start Menu, type "Internet Explorer" into the search box. This search should return at least two results. 2. Click on the "Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)" option. 3. Navigate to a page where you know sound should be heard. 4. Did you hear sound? If yes, we can do further troubleshooting to determine exactly what addon is causing the problems. If no, continue on to the next step. Perhaps you don't have the right plugins/addons installed to play sound. Commonly needed plugins for interactive media include: 1. Adobe Flash. 2. Java. To install these plugins, open Internet Explorer and visit the links above. Follow the directions on the pages listed. After installing these plugins and restarting Internet Explorer, do you hear sound? geordie_guy Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 I am using IE8 and I haven't uninstalled any sound drivers. I am using HP Pavilion t3140.uk Desktop PC with Realtek alc880 on board sound. I have tried uninstall/reinstall IE but didn't work. I think audio driver is fine because I am getting sound from real/media player as well as ITV Player on IE but I not getting any system sounds. I have the latest Adobe Flash and Java plugins. I have also tried both tricks from My Digital Life. Nothing seems to be doing anything. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Realtek has its own seprate software,do you have the icon on your task bar? If you do you need to configure this along with windows sound. If you dont have it then I sugest you update the driver from Realtek so you can receive the software. Realtek can be a little hard to configure and get correct settings. Did you try setting windows sound scheme in windows? Windows XP: Choose a Sound Scheme Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................

Jelly Bean Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 It could be an addon.have you tried disabling them in tools/manage addons? I actualy searched for these fixes while you were away. In realtek audio software do you have mixer enabled or in windows sound settings? You can set system sound affects in the reatek software. Ok my mind is a little blank but I am thinking is the sound scheme set to come out of main speakers or onboard speaker? When you open HD audio on the task bar choose sound manager. You should see the coloured ports there right click on one and choose connection retasking and you can individualy set the ports to what they do.Like mike or front and rear speakers. There is also lots of settings in this software that will take some time to check nothing is muted and all sliders are fully up. I often sugest uninstall the driver from device manager and downloading a new one as this kicks in and resets the sound card to default and usaly solves a lot of issues. Sorry I am a bit vague but tired. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
geordie_guy Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 Sound settings in sound manager look fine and nothing is muted, I will try to download a new one and get back to you.
