Guest ColinR Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 I have a brand new laptop with XP Pro. The machine name and domain have been set. The administrator can log onto the laptop with no problems. I have got the new user to log on to the laptop with the "log on to:" set to the domain. This creates the files within Documents and settings Shut down the laptop and remove the network cable, I restart the laptop and get the user to log on but this take forever. Any ideas how I can get the log on to be much quicker? I need the user to log onto the domain so the user can access mapped drives etc via a VPN.
Guest ColinR Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 RE: Long time to log on when domain is not available Bit more information for you, I forgot to mention that in order to test the laptop the network cable is removed and replaced by a network cable from an ADSL router. This is to test the setup the user will have at home. "ColinR" wrote: > I have a brand new laptop with XP Pro. The machine name and domain have been > set. Guest JJ Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 RE: Long time to log on when domain is not available It sounds like a DNS issue Is this user able to log on faster once the network cable is plugged in? -- Regards, Jeremy Johnston I.T. Guest ColinR Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 RE: Long time to log on when domain is not available Once I complete the steps previous mentioned, I am at the stage of having the laptop with the network cable from an ADSL router, when the user logon the process take a very long time. As soon as I remove the ADSL network cable the logon process completes with no further problems. I suspect that once the ADSL network cable is plugged in the laptop waits for the domain, but this will not be available. thanks "JJ" wrote: > It sounds like a DNS issue > Is this user able to log on faster once the network cable is plugged in? > -- > Regards, > Jeremy Johnston > I.T.
