System restore setting for individual drives

I have backup drives that are near full because I keep as many backups as

will fit, so I get errors that say System Restore doesn't have enough space

on the drive. I disable it for those drives, but can somebody please

explain what System Restore would do with a non-system drive? I mean it's

not going to find any registry files there, so what's the logic of it?

There is no logic to it. I don't know why XP's System Restore defaults

to monitoring non-system drives but there is no reason for it. You are

completely correct to disable System Restore for all drives except the

system drive.

Just turn it off for any non-system drive.

This was MS being overly protective. In hindsight, it was a mistake. This is

why the default was changed in Vista, to only monitor the system drive.
