Terminal Server user profile is deleted during logoff

[Guest sidneycollum@gmail.com]

I have one user on my 2000 Terminal Server whose profile is being

deleted when he logs off. No redirection is in place, no roaming

profiles, and no policies have been specified. Domain Users is nested

inside the local Users group, which he is a member of. Does anyone

have an idea as to what is causing this?

Anything in the EventLog?

Any warnings when the user logs *on* that the profile could not be

found or loaded, and that the user is given a temporary profile?

Is there an existing, corrupt profile for the user in the profile

location?

Unfortunately, there is nothing in the Event Log to give any

indication this person logged off and an error occurred. I checked to

see if any profiles existed for this person on the server and there

are none there. I have other users logging in and using the server

without any trouble, so I'm not sure what makes this guy so special.

When the user is logged on to the TS, can you open a command window

and type "set | more" (without the quotes) to check where the

environment variable %userprofile% is pointing to? And compare that

with another user?

And what exactly are the account settings in AD for this user,

normal profile and TS specific profile, if any?

 

I would also enable verbose logging of the user environment to see

what is going on when the user logs on:

Vera,

 

Thank you so very much for telling me about the logging feature.

Reading the log file indicated that the Terminal Server believes my

user to be a Guest user. I checked for this yesterday and did not see

anything that led me to believe he was in any way associated with the

Guest group, yet now I have my proof. Do you, or anyone else, have

any idea as to why this would be happening?

Vera,

 

Using the information found in the userenv.log, I went back to my

domain controller and discovered a previous admin had made him a

member of the Domain Guests group. Removing him from this group has

resolved the problem. Thank you VERY much for your help!
