Windows Explorer crashes while working with image file thumbnails

Every so often, Windows Explorer crashes when I have image thumbnails in the

display frame; sometimes as soon as I try to do anything like copying or

dragging; sometimes it takes a little while. Sometimes I get an error message

saying that Windows has experienced a problem and needs to close, and some

times it just crashes without warning.

In any event, the crash ends up messing up my taskbar, making icons vanish

from the system tray (no, they aren't hidden) and task buttons disappear from

the task bar.

Needless to say, this is incredibly annoying, requiring me to either log off

or restart to get my full taskbar back. Is there any way to stop these

crashes, or at least fix the taskbar after it's happened without having to

close everything I'm doing?

WinXP Home SP2 (5.1, build 2600)

Doesn't anyone know how to fix this problem, or repair the taskbar once it's

been messed up by this error?

Here's a real shot-in-the-dark:

Line 121. Increase Icon Cache

That Taskbar Repair Plus tool might be just what I'm looking for, at least to

repair the damage the Explorer crashes cause. Thanks.

Still interested in getting a fix for Explorer.exe, though
