Odd Problem - Picture & Fax Viewer on 2003 Server

Okay - I have a very odd problem. I have three directories on a 2003 server

which are shared out. No one has access to logon to the server as "admin"

user except me, and all configurations on the server have been static for

about a year. The only changes have been standard Windows updates.

Suddenly, ONE of the shared folders won't allow users to open images via the

Picture & Fax Viewer. I even tried directly from the server itself and find

the same problem. Any picture files in the root of this folder won't open in

Picture & Fax Viewer. All other folders are fine. Even if I take the photos

from the problem folder, and place them in a subfolder - it will work. I can

open the photos from ANY other location, just not this one folder (unless it

is within a subfolder - then I can open it).

Another interesting fact is that I can open these photos in the problem

folder with any other software package and they open fine (paint, word,

etc.). If I right-click and say to open the file WITH Picture Viewer - it

will open a picture viewer window that just sits at "Generating Preview". If

I simply double-click the photo - Picture Viewer splashes across the screen

and disappears. However - it works for these same pictures if I just move

them to a subfolder, and all other folders on the computer display properly.

I even temporarily gave the "everyone" user permissions and security of FULL

just to test it out - and the problem was still there, so I don't think

security or permissions could be the problem.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have been told by the

users that this MUST be fixed as they aren't willing to use any work-arounds.

Thanks in advance,

Skitrees
