Hi, I have been attempting to use NTBackup to backup the system state. This

always fails and the report tells me to look in the event logs. In the

application log I find a backup 8012 error that says

The Active Directory returned 'unable to update the password. The value

providedas the current password is incorrect. 'from a call to

'BackupPrepare()' additional data '\\servername'.

I also get ntbackup error messages 8001 and 8019.

In the security log i get a 'failure audit' id 537 which complains about the

usernames password and the authentication package is NTLM.

this is stopping me from backing up the system state and is therefore

producing warning errors in the directory service event log.

the server is 2003 and is on sp2. It is a domain controller. the username

that is causing problems has full access across the domain and is used to log

on with regularly. the error message also comes up for other usernames.

any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I am not getting anywhere

with it. thanks

RE: ntbackup errors

What user are you using to attempt the backup? Does the user have read

permissions on all the files/folders being backed up?

I'm not sure - just trying to cover the obvious first. Please disregard if

this does not apply.

Good Luck with it.

Sorry - disregard - I missed this sentence.
