Open Files show wrong user information in Computer Management

Hi Folks,

Here's a strange one that we are having trouble figuring out.

What happens is that sometimes our file server will show the wrong username

for the person accessing a file.

*USER1 opens an excel file from a network share. They make some changes and

close the file. It is a large file and can take several minutes to close.

*USER2 tries to open the file but gets a message it is Read Only. They call

IT.

*IT checks to see who has the file open so they can tell them to close it.

*In Computer Manager on the file server, under Open Files, it shows USER3 as

having the file open. USER3, while they have access to the file, has not

opened it before and in fact has no idea where it is stored. They also do

not have any other documents which link to it.

Our concern is why does USER3 show as the person who is accessing the file?

This happens with at least one other file but we can't find anything in

common (different location, different users and different application) so we

don't know what's up.

Any insight would be helpful.

TIA,

Nancy

We're still stuck on this one and would really appreciate any suggestions at

all.

I'm not sure what to add, we can't think of anything that might cause this

to happen.
