vssadmin.exe questions

I'm playing vssadmin.exe command on my test server (win2k3). I was able to

generate a shadow copy for D:. Is there a way to see the physical shadow

copy file, such as Windows Explorer? I only can view it through vssadmin

list shadows.

thanks in advance.

Re: vssadmin.exe questions

Hello Chris,

Extracted from:

http://www.petri.co.il/what's_shadow_copy_on_windows_server_2003.htm

The files used by Shadow copy will be placed under the C:\System Volume Information

folder, where you'll find a large (~100mb) file, called tracking.log, plus

2 files with a name corresponding to a unique GUID (thanks to Yuval Sinai

for this information).

Best regards

Re: vssadmin.exe questions

Thanks, Meinolf. I found it. But it's not always on C:\system volume

information. In my case I ran it aganist D: so it saved under d:\system

volume information. The other thing I realized that the two files with

unique GUID don't match shadow ID, or volume ID. But I was able to delete it

using shadow ID. I guess tracking.log has the reference to each other.
