Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server Smart Card Redirection Issue

Hi, please help!

 

The terminal server will redirecting everything I select/permit except for

Smart Card Readers. After searching for a long time, all I can find is

information related to using smart cards to authenticate a terminal session.

 

What I need is for the user to be able to use their smart card inside of the

session itself for accessing a webmail provider which requires a smart card

for access rather username/password.

 

I have tried all of the settings I can possibly find on the TS for smart

cards - GPO set 'prevent smart card redirection' to disabled. I made sure

the users are using the most current version of RDP client, and that they

have Smart Cards selected for redirection.

 

I have tried this both using the regular RDP client as well as the web

client but TS does not even prompt for allowing smart cards. I can't figure

out what is missing.

 

I thought it may be a driver issue, but the server is Win 2003 x64 and I

cannot find drivers for these items. however, the server does not require

printer drivers to redirect printers - i don't see why it would need drivers

for other peripherals.

 

Any clarity here is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

When you try to TS from client machine to TS server machine, the smart card

present on client machine is redirected to server machine and user can use

it in his TS session. The user can not use the smart card that is physically

attached to TS server machine.

Regarding printer drivers that is mentioned below, the server does indeed

require printer drivers to redirect printers. It so happens that Win 2003

x64 supports a whole bunch of printer drivers inbox. So, if you are using a

printer with an inbox driver, it will not require explicit installation of

the driver on the server.

The problem, however, is that the smard cards present on the client are NOT

redirecting to the TS session even though they are explicitly requested to do

so. There are no problems with printer, drive, or any other redirection.
