How to change Regional Settings on Terminal Services?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a single domain running Windows 2003 Small Business Server R2 SP2.

Within the domain I have a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 running Terminal Services. I

placed the TS in a seperate OU and created a loopback gpo.

How do I go about changing the regional setting for date to be International

Date Format (yyy/mm/dd) for everything on the TS? Loging in as the remote

Administrator I can make the change but that only affects my Admin profile.

I noticed in 'advanced' that I can apply the change to the Default Users as

well (so I did). But that doesn't seem to have any affect on existing domain

users who RDC to the TS.

Must I be physically located at the TS console to make a system-wide change?

Or can I do it in a local or loopback GPO?

Thanks.

Re: How to change Regional Settings on Terminal Services?

You have to configure these settings during installation of Windows

to set them for all new users.

The only thing you can do after installation of the OS is what you

have done already: change the settings for yourself and the Default

User profile.

But this will not affect users with an existing profile, because

the old settings have now become part of their personal profile and

are not changed by any changes you make on the server.

This is explained here:

924852 - How the "Regional and Language Options" settings in

Windows Server 2003 are applied

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=924852

So the only solution is that every user changes his/her regional

settings in the TS session, or maybe that you try to figure out

which registry keys store the settings and import them in the user

profile in a login script.

Thank you very much, Vera. I will simply delete their local profiles and

then they will create a new one when they logon. I don't allow them access

to the control panels so they can't change regional settings.

Yes, that's one way to achieve what you want.

Note that if you have disabled access to the control panel through a

Group Policy, you can enable individual control panel applets.

For an example, check this:

How can I allow my left-handed users to configure their mouse buttons

properly?

Merci Vera. I have enabled the intl.cpl as per your example. Just what I

needed.

OK, good! Yes, that's a cool little trick, isn't it? I remember how

exited I was when I first read about the possibility to allow some

control panel applets, but not all.
