Demord Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Hello, I own my computer for an year already and have this problem only past month... At first something from main block started emitting strange noise when pc is loading something, noise is like 2 wires are barely contacted and electricity is sparkling between them (maybe it's truth, but i just wrote how it sounds). At first i thought that was fan's fault, i cleaned both fans, but the problem persisted. I tried not to pay attention, but afterwards pc started just to suddenly turn off. When pc is shut i can clearly hear some high-frequency sound from it (don't recall it having that before problems started), i have to completely stop power supply to pc, then it stops screeching, put power again, the screech starts again but then i can turn it on. I was checking the heat of pc (manually) at the moment it turns off and it was quite cool. One time when it turned off twice in a row at night i just turned the power supply off for whole night. In the morning however when i put it back and tried to turn on pc, fans spinned for a second and turned off. I had to power supply off/on again, did that a few times with same result, then just turned power supply on, waited for 10 mins (with low frequency screeching), turned on and it worked. And i noticed that while pc is in low-power usage state (like now, when i am writing this), it doesn't turn off... When i start some more powerful game the sounds from pc become very frequent and after some 10 mins it eventually turns off... Well i guess i told you everything i know about it... Waiting for any help and thanks in advance... Quote
danzil Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 well my first thought would be the power supply.especially with the high pitch sounds n all.and it not always powering on....and the sparking....not good at all/. but i would also check the cpu fan,,,remove the cpu fan from the cpu, check the thermal paste (silver or white sticky paste aka gunk) underneath the heatsink...also give the fan a good clean, make sure nothing is blocking air flow in and out of the case... pcs will only usually turn off if there power supply is interupted, also if the cpu overheats.... give them a try, found yourself another power supply they are cheap enough now,,,,get at least a 350 watt, the bigger the better really. kind regards danzil Quote Windows 10 Pro x64Aqua Jeantech Gaming case550watt psu.MSI Gaming Board32GB DDR3 Corsair gaming RamGenuine Intel i7 3.2Ghz4 x 24x dvdrw 150GB SSD750GB Hybrid Drive256 RAID PCI/E SSD for OSand loads of other bits i really dont need :D
