i hope i am in the right place cos i'm new to this

I am having problems with my brand new laptop (bought 2 days ago) dell inspiron mini (on windows XP) and trying to get it connected to the internet.

I have a wireless router plus a dongle (cos i thought it might help)

I am getting 100% wireless signal for talktalk on my laptop (plus another 2 for BT which are not my network) and the laptop says i am connected, however when i click the "e" to connect it says the web page cannot be viewed as there is no internet connection.

I have wireless internet on my pc although it is connected most of the time using the ethernet cable and dont tend to have many problems.

help!

Hi Carla, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help

Connect the laptop to your network so that is shows it is connected, and then do the following:

Open the command prompt by holding down the windows key, and pressing 'R'.

Into the run box that appears, type cmd and press enter.

Type ipconfig /all into the black command prompt window, and then press enter. The details for your computer's network adapters will come up.

Copy all of this output by right-clicking on the window, and choosing 'Select all', and then paste it into your reply.
