Schedule NTBackup to USB HDD always failed

A windows SBS 2003 is attached with External USB Harddisk. I've scheduled

NTBackup task to backup local HD data to this USB HDD daily.

 

But the operation is usually failed with below error message and find that

computer lose connection with Ext. HDD.

 

Event Type: Error

Event Source: NTBackup

Event Category: None

Event ID: 8017

Date: 1/27/2008

Time: 11:15:00 PM

User: N/A

Computer: JAJACO

Description:

NTBackup error: 'The operation failed. Consult the Backup Report for more

details.'

Is it impossible to schedule backup to External HDD? How can I keep server

connected with USB HDD? (Note: computer is logout when not use)

Now I need to turn on / off power of USB External HDD to reconnect it and

then do a manual backup each time.
