Ive been given a Belkin wireless desktop card (model F5D6001) which i wanted to install on my old pc to put in my workshop, ive installed the software then the card and it finds my router but wont connect to it for some strange reason, the router is just the standard VIRGIN wireless 54mbps jobbie which connects fine with my other pc, my other halfs laptop and the wii console.

Are there any compatability issues between belkin and virgin that anyone knows of or is it just me being silly and setting it up wrong??

What error does it give you when it can't connect?

Do you use any wireless encryption, like WEP or WPA? If so, have you selected the correct type, and entered the password?

Also, what signal strength is the computer reporting when you veiw the network?

It gives an encryption type error, my router has a password but the belkin card wont accept a normal password, it only accepts characters a-f & numbers but my router password uses other letters

Its got quite a high signal strength, i did try it on another pc and got exactly the same result

Ok, It sounds to me like the connection type is set to WEP on the computer, but your router is using WPA.

WEP uses long key phrases of numbers and some letters. WPA uses a normal password, and is the far better of the two to use.

Try changing the connection properties or type to 'WPA PSK' on the computer, and see if you can enter your normal password.

lternativly disable the belkin software, and use the built in wireless configuration in your aoperating system....this is far easier and quicker to use in my opinion

Had a little tinker around earlier on, unistalled and reinstalled the driver software and it does nothing now, wireless config doesnt seem to work either.

Pc knows theres a wireless card......wireless card knows theres a network but today when i try to connect it says "cannot connect for unknown reason"

It is a wireless b card only - I bet your router is set to WPA and your card WILL NOT connect to it.

Card spec

2 things you should do

1) log in to your router and change the encryption over to wireless b.

2 Follow these instructions to install the card without any Belkin software, so you can use Wireless Zero Config - much easier - as denzil suggested

Uninstall the software totally. Go to Device Manager, uninstalll the wireless card.

Leave the wireless card driver CD in the drive, but don't let it run and install.

Reboot. Windows will find new hardware, tell it to install the driver automatically.

Reboot again, and connect to your network.
