I have a Windows 2003 R2 running Citrix Presentation Server 4. There

are two applications, Word 2003 and EBMS (from Ungerboeck Systems.)

Whenever I run Word, it always logs in quickly and runs fine. EBMS (a

sql 2000 app using Windows authenication) always runs fine. However,

after I reboot the TS/Citrix server, the first time a user logs in,

the log in runs fine. The second and subsequent times a user logs in,

the log in takes 1 to 1.5 miinutes. The userenv.log shows the

following on the second and subsequent logins -

Other than the above, the userenv.log looks the same for the first log

in and the other log ins.

Any ideas on what's going on?

Thanks

Re: slow login to Windows 2003 R2 with Citrix Presentation Server 4.0

Are you using roaming profiles, or local, on the TS?

If roaming, is the TS configured to delete the locally cached copy

of the roaming profile?

Have you checked the EventLog on the server? Are there any warnings

or errors regarding profile load or unload errors? Or any other

errors for that matter?

We're using local profiles. The event logs show errors about printers

failing to be created, but the other Cotrix server shows the same.

Re: slow login to Windows 2003 R2 with Citrix Presentation Server 4.0

Mm, I had expected EventLog warnings.

Can you check if the same thing happens when you log on with an rdp

client, in stead of an ica client? Just to check if the problem is

a more general one, or Citrix-specific.

You could also try and install UPHClean on the server, which helps

with profile unload errors. If nothing else, you can use UPHClean

in logging mode, to verify if you have a profile unload problem.

Are these users connecting over the LAN, or over a slow WAN link?

Does the problem only occur for normal users, or also for

Administrators?

Are you up to date with all Citrix PS 4 Rollups and hotfixes?

It happems for all users via citrix. The problem never happens rdp. I

can remote to the server and run the app without delay. In fact, if

I'm not on this network, like when I'm home, there's no delay when

running it via citrix. Since I posted that userenv.log, I hadn't seen

those messages again. From the office, it looks like app is having

trouble authenicating to the sql server. The Citrix server and the

database server are behind the same firewall. They are both using

NAT. Thanks very much for thinking about this.

OK, bottom-posting it is :-)

I don't really get the picture. This:

> It happems for all users via citrix. The problem never

> happens rdp.

seems to indicate a problem with Citrix PS or the ica client (and

again: are you up to date with Citrix PS Rollups and hotfixes?),

but this:

> if I'm not on this network, there's

> no delay when running it via citrix.

seems to indicate a problem with your DNS / firewall / routing

tables.

This kind of problems is extremely difficult to solve in a

newsgroup, because you really have to get the whole picture. I can

only advise to check *all* servers involved: DC, DNS, SQL, etc.

Check service specific logs as well as EventLogs.
