Recommendations for proactive monitoring software?

Hello all,

 

I want to start monitoring our server health on a proactive basis rather

than after the performance/problems arise.

Is anyone using anything they could recommend?

Not sure what you are looking for, but "proactive" operations management, so

detect problems *before* they happen is an area which isn't that easy to go

into. Usually packages who can do that are targeted on the larger

enterprises.

We used this one at my previous gig, http://www.nagios.org/ it has

alot of options plus the abilty to really customize it, it runs on

linux with mysql backed.

ya, I have seen this before, but to answer the OP's request, I do not

believe that this is *proactive*

 

it catches the *events* AFTER they have occurred.

 

the OP's question was on software which can *warn* BEFORE an event, e.g.

"capture suspicious behaviour which could lead up to an event".... Although

nagios is a monitoring software, I do not believe this is capable of warning

proactively....

Well we used is to monitor disk space for instance and we had it set

to email the tech group when a partion was less that 15% free space.

We used it for montoring services when they would stop. ect....SO we

did it use to be "proactive" before something happened. You can also

you the program to read event viewrs and you can create functions to.
