drieschnoronha Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Hi guys. I recently got vista (business 32-bit). And I have 2 HDD's, one is a 1TB the other a 160 GB. When i installed vista, both HDDs were set as primary HDDs. I could not change them because the clips on the back of the HDD did not allow me to do so. Recently I cleaned the inside of my PC and disconnected the 160GB HDD and started the computer. It failed to start saying that it could not find boot sector or something along those lines. Then I connected it and it worked again. After it loaded I checked the HDD for any loading files. I found 2. 1 hidded i.e. Boot.BAK and the other not hidden i.e. BOOTSECT.BAK I wanted to know if I could do anything to allow the system to turn on only using 1 HDD (the 1TB). Also I wanted to know thins since the 160GB is fairly old it will die soon and if that happens I might not be able to start up my PC. Please help, Driesch Quote
Jelly Bean Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Hello and welcome. I asume your Windows Vista instilation is on the 160 gig and the 1 TB is storage? To boot from the 1 TB you would have to install windows on it. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Tootech Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 both HDDs were set as primary HDDs SATA or IDE drives? SATA's are all equal, well equal ish, IDE are not. After it loaded I checked the HDD for any loading files. I found 2. 1 hidded i.e. Boot.BAK and the other not hidden i.e. BOOTSECT.BAK Which hard drive did you check, how did you find loading files? drieschnoronha Posted September 12, 2009 Author Posted September 12, 2009 installed on 1tb and sata. Hey guys. The main installation is on the 1TB not the 160GB. All the windows files are located in the 1tb. the 160gb is only as backup. They are both SATA. the only files that are on the 160GB that are related to windows are Boot.BAK and BOOTSECT.BAK. the rest are just backups of work. trust me on this.:o Quote
drieschnoronha Posted September 12, 2009 Author Posted September 12, 2009 i checked the 160gb and found those two files. loading files were as fast as usual. Quote
