tismehi Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 on my daughters laptop, her mouse has a mind of its own. the machine is a hp g60, amd 64 x2, vista 32 premium, 2gb ram, 120gb hdd. it is 9 months old and was purchased from currys last xmas time. every day, the mouse will open lots of windows at the same time, and all too quick to see which windows they are. it also freezes sometimes. i have uninstalled the trackpad mouse and restarted many times. no better. i have fitted a usb mouse and still it freezes. pc world tell me it will need a remaster. i'm reluctant to do this. just now the mouse went into a spasm again and the taskbar is now at the top of the page. this happened once before and i was able to drop it back, but it refuses this time. also the @ symbol is only available at 2 plus shift. Plastic Nev Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Well Tismehi, you got a good one there, however I can at least sort out the last one I hope. The reason for the @ being on the shift2 key is down to languages and settings being set to American. However I doubt resetting back to UK will sort the rest, but at least give it a try. These instructions are for XP, but I doubt there will be much difference in Vista, except the run command may be slightly different, I don't have Vista yet so can't be sure. go to start, run, and type, or copy and paste-- intl.cpl click OK. or enter. Under the regional Options tab select English (United Kingdom) on the drop down menu. click apply, then OK. You may have to reboot for the change to work. If the other problems persist, I must ask, has any liquid been spilt on it? If not we will go further depending on what you report next. Quote Need help with your computer problems? tismehi Posted September 13, 2009 Author Posted September 13, 2009 thanks. i'm pretty sure no liquid has been spilt on it. it essentially has been doing this since new but we are a patient lot. thanks for the language info. i will tackle this . Quote
Plastic Nev Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Hi again, you say you have uninstalled and reinstalled, so I assume you will also have tried a driver update? If not, try that. Nev. Triode Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 You're still within warranty. Take it back to Curry's and get them to fix it. Back everything up to an external drive first as they'll probably reformat your drive and put it back to the way it was when you bought it. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Triode does have a point, especially as you say it has been like this from new, do at least let them know you are having problems while it is still under warranty, and see what they have to say. Remember the sale of goods act as well. and a quick hi to you triode, are you still active on the wavebands? I haven't used the call sign for over six years, got into computers instead. :D Nev. Plastic Nev Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Hi, try a right click on the task bar, is there a tick by "Lock the Taskbar"? Will unticking it release it? Nev.
