Hi there I am new to this so unsure exactly what I need to include, but I have a problem with my Toshiba laptop.

What happens is that I have tried turning it on quite a few times now and each time it will get as far as "windows loading" screen and then it stays on that for 10 mins or so before turning itself off and restarting to do the same thing again?!?!

Please help :-)

have you tried booting into safe mode.

do this by tapping f8 at startup (before you see the xp logo).....then choose safe mode from the menu....

can you get into safe mode?

if not try "last known good configuration".

what has changed lately..have you done any upgrades, or installed any software.

Hi there

Thanks for your reply. I have tried doing what you said but nothing happens at all. No screen appears just makes a loud beeping noise when I press f8.

I dont beleive that I have done any updates etc lately?!?! It annoying as well as the laptop is a year and one week old and so out of warranty :-(

Any assistance would be appreciated, thanks in advance

Also....

Just to add, I cannot access any screens to start the pc, either in safe mode or any other and can alos not complete system restore.

The only screen I can access is the BIOS screen and I cannot see anywhere on there that gives me an option to start the pc again either?!?!?

to clarify

when you first power on the laptop. you constantly tap F8,,,(ignore the beeping this is the keyboard buffer) you should be presnted with an options screen...

worth a shot, when you go into the bios, try setting all the values to default...there is an option for this, called "load bios default's" or wording to that effect

post back and let me know your findings.

hi ya

Sorry for taking so long to reply

Yes in answer to your question re when I press F8 it just makes that loud noise but at no point gives me an option screen

I have tried also as you suggested to change the BIOS values to default and this also does nothing

I did manage to find my two back up dics but again these are not successful, I changed the BIOS to load from the disc and when I started the laptop it then said "Windows Loading Information" and a bar run along the bottom of the screen, but then it just went black again and no further info was displayed etc

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi kazza,

This unfortunately seems like a damaged/broken hard disk. Do you see your hard disk listed in the BIOS? Are there any 'clicking' sounds coming from the laptop, or any normal hard disk noises at all?

Hi Snow

Yes when I boot the laptop the usual noises can be heard and I can hear the laptop trying to read the hard drive, but it seems to try and then fade again if that makes sense.

The hard drive is still listed on the BIOS screen and is first, although as I have said in my last post above I have tried booting from the recovery discs but that is not working either.

The windows loading bar comes up and then when the blue vista window should appear, the screen goes black and nothing happens from there on, until after around 5mins the laptop turns off and restarts to do it all again.
