Your terminal services temporary client licence will expire in 5 d

Recommended Posts

Hi;

I got the following message when I logon to my Windows 2003 Terminal Server,

how can I fix it.

"Your terminal services temporary client licence will expire in 5 days"

I did purchase the Terminal Services CAL and activating in a couple years

ago but when I looked at the Windows Server 2003 - terminal server per user

CAL token, I found nothing there. I saw it before.

I only found some computer name listed in "Temporary License for Windows

2003....." cert only.

Why?

Additional information.

I found that it changed from Per User mode to Per device mode after I

applied the SP2 on this server. I changed back to Per User mode but still no

help.

Do you mean that you still get the expiration warning?

Are there any warnings or errors in the EventLog about licensing?

Per User TS CALs are currently unmanaged, so the fact that no

licenses are issued (the "Issued" count is listed as "N/A") is by

design and nothing to worry about. When in Per User licensing mode, a

TS only needs to be able to locate an LS.

Hi;

Not at all, but when I went to Terminal Server Licensing, I still see those

device name list in Temporary Licenses for Windows 2003 group with expiry

date on each device name.

When I looked at "Windows Server 2003 - Terminal Server Per User CAL Token",

"Not Appplicable" is on the column of "Issued To", "Issued On", "Expires On".

Do I need re-activate it with the per device license?

No! If you do *not* get an expiration warning anymore, everything

is fine!

As I wrote, you will *always* see "N/A" on all counts, because Per

User licenses are unmanaged. That means that they will never be

issued, you're on the honour system and have to check by hand that

you have enough licenses to cover all your users.

The temporary licenses will be listed in the TS Licensing Manager

until they are deleted automatically. That will happen one month

after their expiration date.
