U2 vs. ISPs

The only reason I'm posting this is that I'm shocked at the misinformation crap propogated by people that don't know what they're talking about. Let's take this statement for example:

U2's Manager wrote:

(about illegal file sharing) "That's no different to an ISP, but they say they can'tdo anything about it. If you steal a laptop from a store or don't payfor your broadband service, you'll soon be cut off and nicked."

 

1. How will they know that you've stollen a laptop to cut your broadband off?

 

2. If you don't pay of course you'll have it cut off. That is easy for the ISPs to monitor and enforce.

 

3. It is impracticle for them to do anything about. There is very little the can do, bar examining all traffic across the network. And that is both completly impracticle and performance reducing as well as raising strong privacy concerns and being circumventable.
