shrimply Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Hi, I'm wondering if you can help, I've tried googling but haven't had any luck. The issue is that recently I've had to type in my full username before firefox brings up my password for passwords that its remembered. For instance, previously if I was logging into this site, all I had to type in the username box was "s" and firefox would automatically fill in my username and password. Now before it will bring up my password I need to type in "shrimply" which to be honest is a pain. Anyone have any idea what's going on. Plastic Nev Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Hi Shrimply, how are you apart from this problem? Click on tools, then options, in the options panel tick "Security" Is there a tick in the box for "Remember passwords for sites"? Also have a look in "exceptions", see if there is anything wrong there then look at "saved Passwords". Next is which version of Firefox are you running? Click help, then "About", you should, if up to date, be on 3.5.3. If not go to Firefox and update. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. shrimply Posted September 15, 2009 Author Posted September 15, 2009 I'm good thanks, heading back to uni tomorrow. Everything seems OK, in the security section as far as I can see and I just updated yesterday to 3.5.3 but I was having issues before the update. Plastic Nev Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Have you installed any new add ons prior to this happening? I have had a good look round and cannot find a way to make Firefox behave like that! If I am not logged in to a site, the log in window opens with my user name and password already there, so all I have to do is click the log in tab. Are you using the private browsing feature? that is one area I haven't looked at yet. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. shrimply Posted September 15, 2009 Author Posted September 15, 2009 Thanks, No new addons, but I'll list what I have installed in case it makes any difference Adblock Plus All-in-One-Sidebar British English Dictionary Cooliris Google Toolbar IE tab New Tab Homepage I'm not using the private browsing feature and haven't ever done. Previously there seemed to be two different types of page regarding to remembered passwords. There was the type which the username and password were already displayed when I visited the page. These ones still work the same. And the sites where the username and password weren't displayed when I visited a page but were brought up upon entering the first letter of my username. These ones have the described issue. I'm guessing I should maybe try reinstalling as I've searched but can't find anything about similar problems. RandyL Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Hi shrimply. I'll take a guess here. Options window - Privacy panel Look at the Remember search and form history: section and also look at the Form autocomplete link in that section too. I'm not sure if cookies make a difference in Firefox on this matter but if the above does not work try setting Firefox to never delete anything on closing to see if that makes a difference. To me it sounds like the autocomplete feature known as Remember search and form history in Firefox is turned off or clearing cookies history etc on closing may be stopping autocomplete from remembering. shrimply Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 Thanks, everything seems to be how it should be. I shall try reinstalling unless you can suggest a better idea and then report back. Probably won't be until sometime tomorrow though as I'm a bit busy this evening. Plastic Nev Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Hi again Shrimply, Firefox can be a tricky beast to uninstall, the normal uninstall via add and remove will remove the main part of Firefox, but a lot gets left behind, when you reinstall you will find that all your bookmarks are still there as well as some of the original add ons as these don't get deleted. However for now do a normal removal and reinstall and see if that works OK. If not, we can go a bit deeper to get everything off before the reinstall. Nev.
