My plus and minus volume buttons on my keyboard used to bring a little display bar on my screen when i pressed them to show how high or low my volume was. But since my BT call centre helper has been on my pc remotely, it no longer shows up on screen when i change the volume. I have tried looking in the Sound Settings etc on Control Panel but i can't seem to see anything that relates. Would anyone know how i can restore this?

Hi Nick, funnily enough, the buttons on my keyboard don't actually bring up the volume slider on screen, I have to click the speaker icon on the bottom task bar first, then the buttons work.

Do you still have the speaker icon on the bottom task bar, if so, does a click on it bring up the volume slider, and will it work as it does for me?

OK Nick, this is obviously a feature not on my machine, can you give us some details please, we need to know the make of your computer and the model number, the operating system, XP or Vista, and if possible what type the sound system is.

With that I can then research for information.

In the mean time, I wonder if this is a special function of your particular keyboard, have you tried an update of keyboard driver?

Like Plastic Nev said we need to know the make of your computer.

I have an HP computer with a HP keyboard. I have that function on my keyboard. When I press those keys a blue display shows on my screen showing the words increasing or decreasing volume along with a seperated line graph showing the level.

Compaq (now owned by HP) has specialized keyboards too with specific functions that relate to the computer.

Depending on what computer you have they may have changed a setting in your keyboard layout in Control Panel.

Another thing they may have done is disabled the feature from running in Startup. I'll give you just one example if you have a HP computer.

Go to Start>Run>type in msconfig>Click OK>Click the startup tab.

If the KBD or KbdStub.exe is unchecked then specialized keyboard functions will not work.

Now if they have actually deleted the files then you will need to reinstall those files which means you might need a driver CD or download them from the manufacturer.

First things first though. What is the make, model and number of your PC or check your settings.

Volume display

Its a Compaq. Not sure what model it is. It has Windows XP if that helps? That msconfig kind of worked. I ticked the keyboard box and i do now have a volume that displays on the screen but it looks a bit naff compared to how it used to look. It used to be quite a nice tight looking green volume bar. Now its a kind of larger font volume bar that runs more along the bottom of the screen. Any ideas how i change the look of it to how it used to be?
