Licensing Expires

Hello. I'm having some licensing issues with my terminal server. For some

reason, any user that connects to the server grabs a license from the

Temporary License Pool instead of the Per User Cals that are available. Then,

after so long, the license expires. How can I get these users to use the CALS

that are available instead of the temporary licenses?

Sounds like your Terminal Server is still in the default Per Device

licensing mode.

You have to switch it to Per User licensing mode, in Terminal

Services Configuration - Server settings.

When did you make that change? Did you change it recently, like

within the last month?

Are users actually unable to connect when their license has

expired? Do they get warnings about expiring licenses?

If they don't get any warnings and they are still able to connect,

then all is as it should be.

Per User licenses are currently unmanaged, which means that you

will never see the Available or Issued count change. It will always

be listed as "N/A". You are on the honour system and you have to

keep track of the number of connecting users by hand.

The temporary Per Device licenses that you see are issued before

you switch the server to Per user licensing mode. They will

automatically be cleaned up one month after their expiration date.
