Computer management across two subnets?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I'm trying to remotely connect and manage computers at our remote site using

the mmc and I receive the following:

"Computer \\computer-name cannot be managed. The network path was not found."

I am, however, able to connect to the Win2K3 domain controller and manage

it, just not the XPProSP2 workstations. I can ping the host names and IPs

fine.

We have a private MPLS site link with Cisco 1841 routers.

Subnets are 192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/24. I have assigned subnets in

ADSS.

Any ideas? I'm also ready to deploy SMS for support -will this also be

impacted? I currently do not have a WINS server, as all of our workstations

and servers are Win2k3/XPProSP2.

Any help is much appreciated.

Re: Computer management across two subnets?

Right click on my computer and select properties - Remote tab. Is "Allow

users to connect remotely to this computer" checked?

Re: Computer management across two subnets?

Yes -it's a group policy setting.

Re: Computer management across two subnets?

Ok, I've resolved the issue -it was an XP firewall/localsubnet issue. See

this document for details:
