Plastic Nev Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Hi, the HP PavilionDV4000 comes in several variations however I have selected the CTO in this instance and you can find a lot of technical help from HP via this link- HP Pavilion dv4000 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English) If the recovery CD has been lost if the machine came with one then you will probably have to send off for a replacement from HP. If however it came without and is of the later type of machine where you have to create your own recovery disk, and it hasn't yet been done, you may still be able to do so. Again the HP site does have instructions for how to do this.-- Obtaining a Recovery Disc set in Europe, Middle East and Africa HP Pavilion dv4000 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English) Scroll down the page a little to see them. Tootech Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 HP's usually have a hidden recovery partition. Nev, so i did a bit of digging around and found this To determine if the HP Recovery Manager is operational, press the power switch to turn on the computer, and then repeatedly press F11 during the startup. The computer will display a prompt to either recover the operating system or create a set of recovery discs if the Recovery Manager is operational, and you do not need to purchase a replacement recovery disc. XP and Vista recovery is covered in these links. You should be able to sort it without buying any CD's Using HP Backup and Recovery Manager HP Pavilion dv4000 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English) Using the PC Recovery Solution HP Pavilion dv4000 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English) Quote
Plastic Nev Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Hi Tootech, my second link takes you to those pages, a bit longer way round perhaps, but it will get you there. Nev. RandyL Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Hi jasand, Tootech and Plastic Nev. Great links on running the recovery from the hard drive and on how to create or buy the recovery disks. I know how difficult it is to research and find that information for particular make, models and number of any PC. I commend you both for taking all the time to do it. jasand you should have all you need thanks to them. To add my personal opinion: I too have an HP and can recover without using disks. However I made a set because you just never know. It also comes in handy to have the disks if you ever need to replace the hard drive and reinstall Windows. I just had to do that last week on a computer. I also suggest buying a set of recovery disks even after making a set. Not only is the price very inexpensive but it gives you two sets in case one set is damaged or lost. In addition the purchased set is likely to be of better quality. Call me paranoid or call me prepared. In any case thanks guys and good luck jasand. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. Jasand Posted September 20, 2009 Author Posted September 20, 2009 thanks for the quick reply, after viewing all links im still no better off. pressing f11 does nothing to start a boot menu and f10 just brings up bios menu, on start/allprograms there is nothing there to do with creating a recovery cd. also avery odd thing is that the screen freezes unless ikeep my finger pressed on the touch pad for the pointer (mouse) im having to doit now otherwise i cannot type or doanything. Plastic Nev Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Hi Jasand again, I find you have also posted this question elsewhere on Help With PCs. You have recieved similar advice over there, and I will add that after running Malwarebytes as advised over there, that you should now send off for the appropriate recovery disk or disks from HP. I will also post this message to you. "It has come to our attention that you have posted for help on another forum(s). We do sympathise and understand that you want your problem solving as quickly as possible. Posting on multiple forums, however, is not the answer. Whether this is a malware or other problem you must realise that a great deal of time is spent by moderators and helpers in researching possible solutions for you. Under normal circumstances we do not begrudge you this time at all. After all, that is why we are here. It is, however, very frustrating to find that our colleagues on this, and other help forums, are being asked to spend time on a topic that is receiving assistance elsewhere. There is also the problem of conflicting information. There is often more than one way of solving a particular problem and if you are receiving assistance from two or more sources, this will invariably conflict or be duplicated. Either way this is a waste of helpers’ time. As you have posted on two or more sites you now have a decision to make. We are happy to help you here but you must inform the other forum(s) of your choice so that you are not wasting other helpers’ time. Similarly, if you choose to get assistance elsewhere please let us know and we will close the thread and wish you luck solving your problem. Please let us know your decision within the next 48 hours. If there is no reply after this period your thread will be closed. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here.
