Hi

Go here and it will tell you what RAM you can put in:

RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, flash cards, SSD at Crucial.com

Installing new RAM is very easy. You might have to take out the 256 you have in now when installing the new RAM.

Max 2GB in 2 sticks of RAM.

Spec, 2.5V DDR 266, PC2100.

I wouldn't put any more than 1GB of RAM in a Windows XP machine, it doesn't need it and you would be wasting your money.

Hi David, I think that looks OK and should do the job.

For the Crucial scan to work at its best, it should be accessed from Internet Explorer, using any other browser involves downloading the scanner to run it.

Otherwise, in some cases where the computer is a home build, or has had a replacement mother board fitted, (as in my case) the scanner can't find much information.

Hope that is of help.

Try this scanner, worked on my Windows 7 PC

Orca memory Scanner

Kinsgston memory is ok - always best to buy branded - unbranded is cheaper but doesn't always work.

Your memory selection is ok, Non EEC unbuffered is what you want. Just use the scanner to back up the info you have here.

Tried the Orca scanner and it did give more information, but it still needs Internet explorer to run directly. If using Firefox or other browser you have to download and save before running it. Also in both Crucial, and Orca, I think it worth a mention that you must tick the little and hardly noticeable box to accept terms and conditions before the scan will run or download.

(I missed seeing it on the Orca site:rolleyes:)

so i take it i need a 184-Pin PC2700 (333MHz) DIMM memory stick and not the one i posted with 266mhz pc2100 what is the difference?

The difference is the speed of the memory chips.

The PC2700 is backwards compatible, buy that and it will work.

Sometimes different sites will report slightly different specs, thats fine.
