Server 2003, Quickbooks, Client Desktop Memory Problem

I may be starting in the wrong place, but trying to find the "right"

place to post about server/desktop/quickbooks/progression issues in

any one forum is just too broad, so here goes.

 

I'll welcome advice, tips on where to look, solutions,etc.

 

I'm running Server 2003 with Quickbooks Enterprise 7.0 AND McCullogh

Progression accounting packages installed. (Why? We are replacing

Progression with Quickbooks, but some older clients can't be ported to

the new platform so we have to run BOTH for a year or so.)

 

I have 12 client computers that connect to the server and pull the

accounting databases across the network. Progression uses SQL,

requiring the MSDE on the desktop client. QB uses its internal

database. When I load either program on the desktop machines, no

problem.When I load BOTH programs on to ANY of the desktop machines, I

get absolutely horrible response from the client PCs.

 

I've even re-throttled the process priority on the desktop machines to

see if lowering the McCullogh priority threads and giving QB realtime

priority will help, all with no luck. It doesn't seem to matter how

many desktop clients are running for this problem to occur. It occurs

on all of them, whether there are 2 or 12 logged into the server at

once.

 

Is there any solution anyone can think of aside from boosting the

memory in all 12 desktops? Which isn't really a fix.. just a patch.

I've REALLY been looking for a program that will "throttle" how much

memory a program can use, for example it would only allocate a maximum

of 200mb of system memory to quickbooks at any given time.

 

Any ideas are helpful.
