Help: Saving a Webpage to my Hard Drive

Recommended Posts

I've been attempting to save an eBay auction page of an auction I won

using "Web Archive, single file(*.mht)".

It gets to about 13% complete, and then I get the error box "This

webpage could not be saved".

Can anyone tell me what may be the problem and what to do from here?

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

Some types of content simply cannot be saved as MHT files.

235589 - Error Message This Web Page Could Not Be Saved:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=235589

Try Web Page Complete.

Hope this helps,

"Cannot be saved" applies specifically, in that article,

to Windows Explorer, no doubt, but one could try other browsers.

My recently won eBay auction is of course a different page, but

I had no trouble saving mine as perfectly re-displayable .mht file

using Opera ( http://www.opera.com ) which is also my newsreader.

Internet Explorer, of course

(or is it the same thing, anyway, being too integrated to separate)

I think everyone knows that.

Another problem I've been having is that the drop down menu from the

search field doesn't work when I begin typing the URL of a previously

visited site.

Also, when searching for instance the "for sale" category on

Craigslist the jpeg images do not show in the posts.

It seems that Windows was much better. Can someone tell me how to get

it back?

Thanks.

There is also no drop-down menu for favorites, and if I do a search

and then hit the back button to put a different term in the search

field, nothing will happen unless I refresh the page first.

So specify what you mean by just "Explorer".

"Windows was much better"?? You need to clarify what you mean by that. Do

you perhaps mean "Internet Explorer" (not to be confused with "Windows

Explorer")?

That would be "Windows Internet Explorer" or "Internet Explorer".

Do you see "Internet Explorer" in "Start" > "All Programs" ?

How about "Start" > "Run" > iexplore

Despite the following not being the same, try

"Start" > "Run" > explorer

[or open "My Computer"]

then type any URL into "Address"

To add Internet Explorer to the "Start" menu,

open folder "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer"

drag iexplore.exe to the "Start" button,

release mouse button after "Start" menu opens

(optionally rename using right-click)

To add Internet Explorer shortcut to desktop, right-click iexplore.exe

(in above folder) and "Send to" > "Desktop" (create shortcut)

Thanks.

Last week I just downloaded and installed Internet Explorer again, and

now I have it.
