Guest Janet Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I'm looking for a tool to migrate the logins from one Server 2003 Enterprise edition running sql2005 and IIS6 to new hardware (running same software) that will eventually be renamed with the same name and ip. The migration tool out there seems to migrate domains and controllers. Any help really appreciated. Thanks, Janet
Guest Steve Goddard Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 RE: Server 2003 Migration Not sure if any such tool exists, are you talking about local accounts, SQL accounts or something else? To migrate from one hardware platform to another a clean build is best with a well documented configuration to achieve the same as the old build, but if your after quick wins - Symantec Restore anywhere, takes an image of one and allows you to put it on other hardware. Takes some tweaking with the drivers and it often Blue Screens. Otherwise I would be backing up and restoring the SQL database which restores security and recreating local accounts with new passwords. Not sure about IIS, sure there is an option to restore state but wouldn't know about user accounts. -- Steve G.
