Hi Julie, welcome to the forum :)

You've done several good things there, but by the sound of it,the problem may be with your computer's network connection.

What kind of equipment do you use to connect to the internet?

Do you have a router? If so, then is it plugged into your computer with a cable, or do you use wireless?

Hi Julie, is this a broadband ADSL modem or are you using a dial up modem?

If it is a broadband connection, I think that it may be a problem with your browser, so which are you using, Internet explorer, Firefox, or other?

If you are using Internet explorer and it has been updated to internet explorer 8, there have been issues with it, sometimes stalling, or coming up with the "Internet explorer has encountered a problem and has to close" Message.

You can uninstall it and it will roll back to I.E.7 providing the computer is old enough to have originally been loaded with it.

However if that doesn't work or cannot be rolled back, have you tried Firefox from Mozilla?

It can be downloaded from here-

Hi, do you know if you are on a broadband connection?

Do you know what speed you are getting in KB/sec or GB/sec?

if you are using window vista or window 7 make sure you have good piece of machine. make sure you have a good graphic card. To me its more likely looking as graphic card and ram problem ..
