Hard drive nearly full

Hi all how can i get my hard dive memory back i have a 150gb drive and there is only 40gb left although i have moved all my music pictures and films to an external drive and deleted them from my internal drive.

I assume you meant that you have 40 MB left, not 40 GB.

 

Now that you've moved your files to an external drive, you need to delete them from the original drive. I also suggest that you make two backups, instead of only one. If these files are important, it's best to have at least two backup copies.

No i meant 40gb i just wonderd what was taking up the rest i know vista takes some but surley not 100gb

In order to function correctly a HDD should ALWAYS have at least 10% of the drive free.

 

Did you make your system or was it a shop one?

It may have partitions on the drive for the backup and utilities, this at most would occupy around 10-20GB
