Guest Heirloom Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Re: spybot question http://help.lockergnome.com/windows2/Windows-start-ftopict202527.html I don't profess to know what the heck I am talking about, but, when this thread first started, I did a simple Google search for "kernall32.dll" and found loads of stuff....a lot of which concerned some nasty backdoor trojan. I know this is not a system file, however, the link above with replies from Noel Patton found a problem in a system.ini file being corrupt. Other hits in Google go into more detail of the trojan and the spelling is correct, it has nothing to do with the system file <kernel32.dll>. Maybe a false alarm, maybe a red flag....don't know.....JTTH. Heirloom, old and got the A/C running!!
Guest webster72n Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Re: spybot question nellie: If you were following all the threads in this post, you know by now that the latest version is 1.5.2.20, not 1.5.1.17. V.1.4.. would probably serve the same purpose, but personally I like to be 'up-to-date' and all indications are, that the latest version is compatible with WinME, even though a little maneuvering on my part was necessary. As far as the "trick" is concerned, please, ignore it since I can't recollect any details of it. The download for v.1.5.2.20 can be obtained on this website, among others: < http://www.scanwith.com/download/Spybot_Search_and_Destroy.htm > Hope you are successfull in your endeavors and that the "kernall32.dll" was a smoke screen. Right. 1.5.2.20 is a later version than the one I indicated had problems with high utilization and SpyBot S&D software loading latencies on; Win2K, WinXP and Vista. -- Dave http://www.claymania.com/removal-trojan-adware.html Multi-AV - http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/dl/35905.asp
