Plastic Nev Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Yet again the brass band I am a member of, Darwen Brass, is entering the Fleetwood Brass Band contest tomorrow Sunday 4th October. We have been doing some very heavy rehearsals recently hence my not being here as often as I would normally. But hopefully we will get a good result and I will let every one know how we got on and hopefully either a link or other means to let you listen to the piece we play. Until the contest, the piece of music has to remain unknown to the rest of the world so as to rule out cheating or favouritism. Once over and done with, I hope you will enjoy it as much as we do in playing it. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. Plastic Nev Posted October 4, 2009 Author Posted October 4, 2009 As promised, I am pleased to tell you all that Darwen Brass did exceptionally well, our youngest player got a prize all of her own bless her, little Milly is only 10 or maybe 11 now. Dave, our euphonium player, took the prize for the best euphonium in the fourth section, our conductor took a prize for the best conductor of our section, and we got first prize too. The band is in high spirits and a party is planned for tomorrow night. Now then the music we played is a piece called Music for a Festival, and was written by Philip Spark. Here is a link to the Oldham Youth band and Fodens Band, (not us) playing that piece. Unfortunately not a very good recording of it, but it will give you an idea of how the music sounds. It is in two parts, so look for part 2. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. If Free PC Help has helped you then please consider a donation. Plastic Nev Posted October 31, 2009 Author Posted October 31, 2009 A video was taken at the time of winning this contest, unfortunately too long to upload to You Tube, and in the new High Definition format, meant I couldn't find a free program to edit it into two parts. However, I have managed to rip the sound track off the video, then pass it on to a friend who has kindly done a bit of work on it then hosted it on "Soundclick". It is called "Music for a festival" and is at the top of the page. the other music is stuff my friend has done himself. To play, there are three arrows, the right hand one is the HI FI download. here- Music page of Condor GB - MP3 music page on SoundClick Quote Need help with your computer problems? Plastic Nev Posted November 15, 2009 Author Posted November 15, 2009 And further good news is, we took the same piece of music to the St Helens contest today and won first prize there too. Myself and the rest of the band are well pleased with that. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here.
