Guest Laphan Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Hi All Kids, bloody kids! Is there any option in GPO that will specifically stop users from rotating the XP screen other than normal? I currently set AD pupil accounts so that they can't right-click to bring up the context menu and do the rotation from here, but somehow the kids are getting past this and rotating the bloody screens. How are they doing it? I thought the right-click/graphic options/rotation method was the only way??? Thanks
Guest neo [mvp outlook] Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Re: How to stop the ruddy screen rotation! It may be do the graphic (video) driver itself. For example, some onboard intel graphic drivers will allow screen rotation by using hot key combinations like ctrl + alt + <one of the arrow keys on keyboard>. If I'm not mistaken Intel does allow the hot keys to be disabled via its control panel applet. Guest Ryan Hanisco Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 RE: How to stop the ruddy screen rotation! Hi, In addition to the other good suggestions that were already provided, you might also look at other relatively inexpensive tools to help you control your computing environment. I started my career as an IT manager of a metro school district with 50+ buildings -- it is quite a challenge to keep any school's IT in line. You might look at a product called DeepFreeze. This will reset the workstations back to a standard config on boot and will let you maintain a standard setup without restricting the students while they are using the computers. I found that this was ideal, especially for Comp Science classes where the students should be learning about the computers more. They have a great product and give good discounts to schools. You should also look at locking the students down to standard users, using mandatory profiles, and very restrictive GPOs to lock the workstations down. This takes a bit of planning, but it is well worth the hassle as you'll not be reimaging computers all the time. -- Ryan Hanisco MCSE, MCTS: SQL 2005, Project+ http://www.techsterity.com Chicago, IL Remember: Marking helpful answers helps everyone find the info they need quickly. Guest Irv Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 RE: How to stop the ruddy screen rotation! There is a tick box to disable rotation and also for the hotkeys for my Intel video driver so you may be in luck also. However going to each machine and tickung it will be a pain. If you can identify the registry key ticking the box modifies you should be able to knock up an adm file and import into your exiting GPO HTH Irv "Laphan" wrote: > Hi All > > Kids, bloody kids! > > Is there any option in GPO that will specifically stop users from rotating > the XP screen other than normal? > > I currently set AD pupil accounts so that they can't right-click to bring up > the context menu and do the rotation from here, but somehow the kids are > getting past this and rotating the bloody screens. > > How are they doing it? > > I thought the right-click/graphic options/rotation method was the only > way??? > > Thanks > > >
