Guest susan Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Dear all, I've got problem with my domain controller server. It always restart and sometimes it has got bule screen and message "system dump with physical memory". I reboot it and see the Event Viewer the it says "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0." "A parity error was detected on \Device\Ide\IdePort2." and "The device, \Device\Harddisk1, has a bad block." I am afraid if this server will crash down. I would like to know if there is other solutions about it or how can promote another server to also be a domain controller then if one fails the other takes over. Could you please help me about this problem? I look forward to hearing from you. It's urgent for me, please help. Thanks in advance, Susan

If you have another server, what operating system is it? If the same, you can promote it using dcpromo.exe. No need to remind anyone that the rule of thumb is to have a minimum of two DCs. So, will I can still use your steps of promoting a server to Domain Controller? Please help me again with this. Thanks in advance, Susan

You can actually use 2000, but rather 2003, where I see you have no problem with. Select the server that has the least amount of apps and services running on as your new domain controller. Follow the steps in the article. When you are done, post an ipconfig /all of both DCs and a sample client machine. This way we can help to ensure your configuration is correct. Ace

I would like to know exactly what is happening with my Domain Controller Server that is always restart and has got blue screen with the message at the end "Begining dump with Physicall Memory". I would like to check it and make sure about that cause. How can I do if I do not use Event Viwer? Are there other way can I check the cause of the problem? Thanks in advance Susan

That is much more helpful.v I did some searching for "STOP : c000021a {Fatal System Error}" and here is what I found: Apparently there is a compromised or corrupt necessary Windows file (winlogon, userinit, etc) that is required to run. It could be caused by a hardware failure as well as software. A virus could have caused it to alter the MBR (Master Boot Record). So there are a number of things that can cause this. Is an antivirus installed? Antispyware? Any possible way to disable startup or scanning if you get it up and running? Bug Check 0xC000021A: STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms797159.aspx Do you have GoBack installed? If so, read this: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316503&sd=RMVP This is an interesting thread about this error. Read the part about the debug procedure: http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/511581-stop-c000021a-fatal-system-error.html What errors are in the Event Log? Ace

Now, my DC server is ok. I think it's because of Hardware problem. I shut it down and clean it. And it work properly. But I also have done with promote DC and second DHCP, still second DNS not yet done. Actually, I think it might have some difficulties that I would like some advice from you again because I never do it before. I do that in order to avoid if my DC got problem again. Thanks again. If you don't want it, demote it to a member server, but NEVER just disconnect it. It's references are still in the AD database as well as in DNS and will always be there unless you properly demote it. If a client were to logon, it may resolve that DC but will not be able to contact it because it is down and may not be able to logon. There are numerous other things that can happen. Look at the current DC's event logs. I bet my paycheck there are replication errors. There are also certain services it holds that are necessary for domain operations. You can't simply unplug it like the NT4 days. Either plug it back in or demote it, please. Ace
