I have a user who deleted their profile. They went to mycomputer properties,

advanced, then user profiles and deleted it from there. Does anyone know

where i can recover it from?

Hi - wrong group? This isn't a server issue unless you're talking about a

Terminal Services box.

That said, there is no way that a user, as him/herself, can do this - it

would be a suicidal act & the system wouldn't let you do it. You can't

delete the profile for the account you're logged in as. You'd have to be

logged in as another account with admin rights - so it can't be an accident.

You'll need to restore from backup, presuming you've got one - if not you

may want to look at undelete software for the local workstation (but stop

anyone using it in the meantime). I can't recommend any specifically as I

haven't had to work with this stuff in long time.

If you're on a domain, I suggest you start using folder redirection so that

all your users' My Documents, App Data, and Desktop, is actually on the

server and not on the local workstation. And don't grant users admin rights

or let them know the passwords of accounts that *have* admin rights - then

this sort of thing won't be an issue in the future.

Re: Deleted Profile

Thanks. What happened was the user was created a new profile, so they saw

one that was user.domain as a profile, and deleted it. That was actually

their real profile. I dont know why it created a different one when the

logged on. So there were two, one called user and one called user.domain

with the latter being the true profile which was deleted.

Meaning, someone did this for the user? On the domain? You aren't being very

clear.....

Ah, that wasn't a very wise idea.

This is common enough. If you have a local user called Jim, and c:\documents

and settings\jim, when the *domain* user Jim logs in, he gets c:\documents

and settings\jim.domain.

Or, if a local profile gets corrupted, you can end up with jim1 and jim2.

If you weren't using roaming profiles, and don't have workstation backups,

you're somewhat SOL unless you use undelete software as already suggested.

You should definitely implement folder redirection, even if you don't use

roaming profiles, in the future.
