Wyrdskein Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Hi - I am having a problem with the windows logon prompt. I tried to remove it by going to RUN, then Userpasswords, and unclicking the box which says 'require users to.. ' etc. but this created another problem. When booting up I was unable to simply click OK to logon (as before) as there were 'user restriction.' I played around in Safe Mode and managed to set up a passwordless logon under my name, but have been unable to get rid of the logon prompt altogether. Now pulling my hair out! Quote
snow Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Hi Wyrdskein, Try this from Microsoft's support site: How to turn on automatic logon in Windows XP You can also use turn on automatic logon without editing the registry in Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and in Microsoft Windows XP Professional on a computer that is not joined to a domain. To do this, follow these steps: Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK. Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box, and then click Apply. In the Automatically Log On window, type the password in the Password box, and then retype the password in the Confirm Password box. Click OK to close the Automatically Log On window, and then click OK to close the User Accounts window. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Jelly Bean Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 To remove user logon in XP home is as follows: Click Start and Run Type Control Userpasswords2 and press enter. Uncheck the box for "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer." Click Apply and Ok. The correct command is in bold. Are you sure you are full admin/owner of the computer? If the computer is now having issues a system restore to before you made changes may help then try the above command in the run box. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
