.shd and .spl files

I am not sure if I am in the right group. If not, please point me to the

correct group and accept my apology for the intrusion.

I am getting a report from WindowsServer2003 that there are some 90 .spl

and .shd files not backing up. I would like to delete these files, but

am getting a message that they are in use and cannot be deleted.

Having search the internet, I do know that they are printer shadow and

spooler files, but that is about all the info I could gather.

Could someone please help me find the info on how to delete these? - or

do they get deleted automatically after a certain time period? I do

notice on my report that the number of these files does change.

Thanks from a raw newbie for any help you can give.

If you know of any links that will help me get comfortable with the

basics of WinServer2003, pleae pass them on.

Thanks again

Joanne

Hello Joanne,

Are the files located here:

C:\Winnt\System32\Spool\Printers

Best regards

Re: .shd and .spl files

Hello Joanne,

If they are there, you have to stop the print spooler, then you can delete

them and start the print spooler service again.

To prevent this try this:

1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click the Printers folder.

3. Use the right mouse button to click the icon for the printer you are using,

then click Properties on the menu that appears.

4. On the Details tab, click the Spool Settings button.

5. Click the "Start printing after last page is spooled" option button, then

click OK.

Best regards
