reign Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Hello guys i will try to explain my situation in as less words i can. i have a laptop that is 2 years old at first it was running pretty okay, but now its gone extremely slow for no reason, also note that even if no applications are running at the back and cpu usage is at 10% and even less the laptop is again struggling to open an application, and even old games like warcraft run at 10fps and less. Here are the steps that ive taken so far to fix the problem: Disabled windows updates, defragment the hard disk, i have AVG internet security installed so i doubt that my pc has any virus/spyware because i scan it regularly, used tuneup utilities and done everything it said i had to do clear the registry,re-defrag,etc etc i have done pretty much everything software-wise so now all i can think of is that there is a hardware problem, even though i should be able to know about it because those kind of problems most of the time are obvious. here are the specs of my laptop and i hope that someone can help me with this: Windows: Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Memory (RAM): 2038 MB CPU Info: Intel® Core2 CPU T5200 @ 1.60GHz CPU Speed: 1594.0 MHz Sound card : Conexant HD Audio output Display Adapters: Mobile Intel® 945 Express Chipset Family | Mobile Intel® 945 Express Chipset Family | NetMeeting driver | RDPDD Chained DD BIOS Info: AT/AT COMPATIBLE | 01/02/07 | HP - 6040000 Motherboard: Quanta 30BB Quote
reign Posted October 8, 2009 Author Posted October 8, 2009 also i did a drivers search to see if i have any outdated drivers and only found this and fixed it: Intel Corporation 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7 Family) SATA IDE Controller Quote
Tootech Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 I guess there are two avenues of thought on this one. First is as you suggest a hardware fault - my first guess on that would be the hard drive. Second, it could be malware related, Chiaz should be able to help you check that one out. As regards, the hard drive, hop over to the Control Panel, then to Administrative Tools. Then you need to look at the error log - its the System log you need. Look for any errors that say "Error Device HDD0 has bad block" or similar. Let us know what you find. Quote
reign Posted October 8, 2009 Author Posted October 8, 2009 you mean at 'Event Viewer' and then 'System Log'? i havent found any hard disk related errors but i found these: The assembly x86_Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.2600.2180_x-ww_a84f1ff9 has missing or invalid files; recovery of this assembly failed. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. and The cpuz132 service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the path specified. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. those 2 errors above are the only that seem a bit weird most of the other errors are just errors from applications that i use 'End Task' to terminate and show up as errors Quote
maynardvdm Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Let our malware expert look at your log and see if there is any malware. Can you please do this for us: Please download the latest version of HijackThis from Trend Micro and save it to your desktop. Download HJTInstall.exe to your desktop. Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install HijackThis. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis . Click on Install. It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop. Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis. Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in Notepad. Include this log in your next reply. Notes: Do not use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted. Do not have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless, or required for your computer to run like it should. Quote We are all members helping other members.
