Hey guys, 2nd post on the site.

Ive recently fitted 2x1gig ram sticks to my 1639uk hp/compaq desktop pc along with a 500w antec PSU and a nice ATI sapphire 518mb graphics card.

It took me some time to get all this working propperly as i got it without drivers but quickly got them off ATI's site. I also have a sharkoon rush fireglider installed too.

The problem i face is this, i launch Counter strike condition zero and join a server, i buy my equip and set off in a frantic firefight, then all of a sudden out of nowhere i carry on walking forward as the keyboard is unresponsive and so is the mouse, if i was firing it continues to do so. I've tried lots of things like different servers (ping) no result, mouse change (no result) different keyboard of the same type (no result) upgraded directx (no result) disabled ATI's auto ATI hotkey (no result).

Quickly running out of ideas and its beginning to get to me. never used to do it with my 128mb geforce.

I have recently done some research and found that my earthwatts 500w PSU from antec "produces" 22A but according from the site i bought it from it produces about 17A and i require 30A from a single rail.

Should i post this in hardware as i need to find a nice 30A PSU now well atleast i think i do.

Hi TUG, I am neither a gamer or much of an expert on graphics cards, so I will have to take your word at the moment regarding the 30amps.

If that is correct then the PSU could well be overheating, both risking a failure and will also be dragging the voltage down, that could be the cause of keyboard and mouse failure.

If the amperage you state is correct then you certainly need a bigger PSU.

I will have to leave it to others with more knowledge on the graphics side and gaming though, for other answers.

Nev.

Hi,

This sounds allot like a windows crash. If windows freezes in the background you might be left with no input to the computer.

Does this happen with every game you play, or only CS?

Also, what model of ATI card do you have? A higher-end 4870 or 4890 may have a problem with that power supply, but I doubt it.

The best thing to do would be to check the windows event log for errors that occurred around about the same time.

Hold down the windows key and 'R' at the same time; you should see a run box appear. Into that, type eventvwr.msc and hit enter.

Look though the Application and System logs for any red crosses that appear, with a similar time to the last time it crashed.

Post the Description contained in them, and we'll see if it helps.

Hey snow, i will give it another go in a bit and post up my log? My card is the x1950xtx but its an older one not one of the new ones.

I'll post up the results and maybe sort this out because its really bugging me, i'm not the type of person to leave something when its broke or now haha.
