Enviro-litebulbs - not a very bright idea

I went and bought 2 dozen florescent*light bulbs - to replace the incandescent ones in our house... what a waste of time and money:

 

1. in almost all cases - I find these light bulbs "flutter" like a fast strobe

 

2. they do not work well with lamp shades designed for the old round bulbs

 

3. they do not work on dimmer switches - emitting a buzz on anything but full setting

 

does anyone really use these things?* id like to be "greener" but they are triple the price and do not work is what ive found.
